Galápagos Expedition with National Geographic - Lindblad

Galápagos Expedition Cruise with National Geographic‑Lindblad: Kayaking, Giant Tortoises & Memories for All Ages
In October 2024, I embarked on a Galápagos journey that blended adventure, education, and meaningful connections. This wasn’t just another destination—it was an expedition that opened my eyes to the delicate beauty of these islands, the importance of conservation, and how families and explorers alike can experience it responsibly.
From giant tortoises and kayaking excursions to candid conversations with the captain of the National Geographic Islander II, let me take you inside this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Getting to the Galápagos is part of the adventure. In my video “How to Get to the Galápagos Islands with Lindblad Expeditions”, I walk through the process—from international flights to Ecuador, to the chartered flights that bring you to the islands themselves. Lindblad Expeditions makes the journey seamless, offering guidance at every step so travelers can focus on the excitement ahead, not the logistics.
Once aboard the National Geographic Islander II, I had the privilege of touring this exceptional expedition ship. The ship tour and captain interview gave a behind-the-scenes look at what makes this vessel special, from its elegant design to its commitment to sustainable travel.
The captain shared his passion for the region and his crew’s mission: “We are stewards of these islands. Our job is not just to show them to you, but to protect them for future generations.” This ethos shaped everything we experienced aboard.
Our adventure truly began as we set out to explore. In “Let’s Go Explore the Galápagos!”, I captured the excitement of those first steps onto island terrain—where sea lions greeted us on rocky shores, and the unique landscapes hinted at the wonders ahead.
From snorkeling with sea turtles to marveling at volcanic formations, each day felt like stepping into a living science documentary.
Kayaking along the coastline allowed us to see the islands from a different angle—gliding quietly past marine life and rugged cliffs. Hikes revealed hidden wildlife: marine iguanas sunning themselves, birds nesting just feet away, and even a camouflaged octopus tucked in a tide pool.
This was hands-on learning at its best. The Galápagos invited us to slow down, observe, and connect.
No moment felt more humbling than standing among the giant tortoises. These ancient beings, some over a century old, embody the resilience of these islands. They reminded me why conservation matters—and why travel here should always be thoughtful and respectful.
In a heartfelt interview with Gabby, our Expedition leader and mom, we discussed bringing children on an expedition cruise. Gabby shared: “This isn’t just a trip. It’s an education the kids will never forget. They’re learning to appreciate the world in ways I never imagined.”
Her perspective highlighted how the Galápagos isn’t just for seasoned travelers—it’s for curious families, too.
As our expedition drew to a close, I felt immense gratitude—for the people we met, the places we explored, and the deeper understanding we gained about our planet. This trip wasn’t about ticking a destination off a list. It was about engaging with the world responsibly and meaningfully.
